Galloway Forest Park
offers spectacular views and a diversity of dramatic scenery. Three hundred square miles of wild beauty are waiting to be explored, here, in Britain’s largest forest park.

Turnberry is also close to other historic sights, such as the stunning Culzean Castle. Just to the north is the village of Kirkoswald where Robert Burns was schooled, and the real life inspirations for his characters ‘Tam O’Shanter’ and ‘Souter Johnnie’ are laid to rest in the churchyard.

The unique village as it is seen today is a much younger endeavor. Built at the turn of the century, it serves as a resort centre for the famous golf course for which the name Turnberry is known throughout the world.

Ailsa Craig

A beautiful and enigmatic island, now a RSPB bird sanctuary.
Accessible by boat from Girvan, and also Campbeltown in high season, this lonely island has a distinctive domed shape that has mades it such a local landmark for much of the coastal region of Ayrshire. Made of granite, it was quarried in the past to make curling stones for this popular Scottish winter sport. It also has some spectacular basalt column rock formations. Now home only to thousands of seabirds, it also has a ruined castle keep and a lighthouse, now automatic. It is particularly important for gannets, but also supports other breeding seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills and puffins. A boat trip to the island is an unmissable feature of any trip to this part of Scotland.
